ABOUT ME
I was born in Toronto, Canada to Dutch parents who emigrated from the Netherlands in the 70s, settling in Niagara, Ontario. I have lived in Scotland for more than 20 years, based in the far north in Freswick, Caithness, and in Edinburgh. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in America, later studying Fine Art at Dundas Valley School of Art, Toronto and Leith School of Art, Edinburgh, UK.
Working in oils and mixed media, the wild spaces in the far north of Scotland are the inspiration I turn to in my paintings. The context in which I live along the coast has influenced the exploration and found-object relationships in much of my work.
Alongside my studio practice, I have been involved in curating a wide programme of exhibitions and events.
